The Catshill Commitment – Quality First Teaching
At Catshill Middle School, we believe that every child deserves high-quality teaching that enables them to thrive, achieve and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our Catshill Commitment sets out 16 key principles of Quality First Teaching, providing a consistent, inclusive approach to teaching and learning across our school. It outlines what pupils can expect from their lessons and how our staff are committed to supporting every child to make progress.
At the heart of our commitment are positive relationships, high expectations and a strong sense of belonging. We recognise that every pupil is unique, and our approach prioritises adaptive teaching, appropriate challenge and the development of essential foundational skills to ensure that all pupils can succeed.
Our principles also emphasise the importance of active participation, purposeful talk, effective questioning and regular checks for understanding. We want pupils to become confident, curious and independent learners who can reflect on their progress, articulate their thinking and take ownership of their learning.
Underpinned by our school values of Kindness, Aspiration and Self-Belief, the Catshill Commitment provides a shared framework for pupils and staff, ensuring that high-quality teaching and inclusive practice remain at the heart of everything we do.
