Geography

At Catshill Middle School, we are geographers! Our geography curriculum is designed to spark curiosity, inspire exploration, and empower children to make meaningful connections between people, places, and the planet.

Our Geography curriculum encourages pupils to explore the world with wonder, enquiry, and critical thinking. Through engaging topics and real-world investigations, children develop a deep understanding of the physical and human processes that shape our Earth — discovering how environments, cultures, and communities are connected locally and globally.

Each topic is a journey of discovery, where pupils explore diverse landscapes and societies — from their local area to faraway places around the globe. They learn to ask meaningful questions, analyse data and maps, and consider how human actions impact the natural world. Pupils build the skills to think like geographers: to interpret patterns, solve problems, and make informed decisions about the future of our planet.

Our curriculum celebrates diversity and sustainability, encouraging pupils to respect different environments and appreciate the challenges facing our world today — such as climate change, resource use, and global inequality. Through hands-on learning — including fieldwork, map work, and case studies — pupils discover that geography isn’t just about maps and countries, but about people, places, and the powerful links between them.

By the end of Key Stage 3, pupils see geography not only as a subject to study, but as a vital lens through which to understand, question, and protect our world — giving them a strong sense of responsibility and connection to the environment and society around them.

In line with one of our federation’s core values — aspiration — we aim to develop possibilities for all! We want children to have no limits to their ambitions, aspiring to be:

  • Environmental Scientists,

  • Urban Planners,

  • Adventurers,

  • Climate Change Analysts,

  • Travel Writers,

  • Geologists,

  • Teachers… and so much more!
