Design & Technology

At Catshill Middle School, we are designers!
Our Design & Technology curriculum is crafted to engage, inspire, and challenge pupils — equipping them with the knowledge and skills to cook, build, and create with confidence and purpose.

Through Design & Technology, pupils are encouraged to use their creativity, imagination, and curiosity to design and make products that solve real-world problems. Each project invites them to think deeply about their own needs, the needs of others, and the opportunities around them — developing solutions that are both thoughtful and innovative.

Our curriculum nurtures independent, creative problem-solvers who can think critically and work collaboratively. Whether working individually or as part of a team, pupils learn to plan, test, and refine their ideas, developing confidence, resilience, and pride in bringing their designs to life.

A vital element of our curriculum focusses on food and nutrition, where pupils gain essential cooking skills and explore the principles of healthy eating. We believe learning to cook is not only a vital life skill but also one of the great joys of creativity — empowering pupils to prepare delicious, nutritious meals for themselves and others, both now and in the future.

By combining creativity, practical skills, and an understanding of real-world challenges, our Design & Technology curriculum inspires pupils to become innovators, makers, and problem-solvers — ready to shape the world around them with imagination, confidence, and purpose.

In line with one of our federation's core values – aspiration – we aim to develop possibilities for all! We want children to have no limits to what their ambitions are, aspiring to be:

  • Product Designers,
  • Architects,
  • Chefs,
  • Carpenters,
  • Automotive Designers,
  • Fashion Technologists,
  • Industrial Engineers….and so much more!
