Art & Design

At Catshill Middle School we are artists! Our art and design curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.

Each child's sketchbook is a personal journey—a space to explore ideas, reflect on thinking, document progress, experiment with techniques, and express individuality. With no 'right' or 'wrong' way to create, every pupil can take pride in their work and grow in confidence.

Our art curriculum empowers children through diverse, creative, and inclusive projects. Themes such as Portraiture and The Blue Planet encourage pupils to explore both personal identity and global concerns. Along the way, they discover influential artists like Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, and Yayoi Kusama, whose work highlights art’s evolving role in shaping culture.

Designed to engage every learner, the curriculum nurtures a broad skill set through drawing, painting, printmaking, clay work, and more. By continually revisiting and building on these techniques, pupils not only develop as artists but also gain transferable skills that support learning across the curriculum and lay foundations for future success.

In line with one of our federation's core values – aspiration – we aim to develop possibilities for all! We want children to have no limits to what their ambitions are, aspiring to be:

  • Illustrators,

  • Art Curators,

  • Creative Directors,

  • Printmakers,

  • Product Designers,

  • Photographers,

  • Filmmakers….and so much more!
