  • World Mental Health Day

    Published 02/09/24

To celebrate World Mental Health Day on Thursday 10th October 2024 we would love to see you take part in a family activity that looks after your and your family’s mental health, reduces stress and provides positive wellbeing. Please take photos and share any of your activities with us so we can share them on our social media page and a display in school.

PLEASE NOTE: By sending photos in, you are consenting for them to be on our social media page and displayed around school. Please send images to [email protected]

We look forward to seeing a variety of fun had by all our families! #worldmentalhealthday

Also, to help raise awareness of Mental Health, on Thursday 10th October, we are inviting all children to accessorise their school uniform/PE kit with something yellow - a ribbon in their hair, yellow socks, a yellow t-shirt if it’s a PE day for example. ‘Hello Yellow’ is one of the tag lines for WMHD and, as well as raising awareness of Mental Health, it will help us lead conversations with the children on the day about the topic.

    Suggested activities:

    • Have a digital detox. Phones and social media can cause us to feel anxiety and pressure. Taking some time away from technology, whether it's short breaks away from your phone or a day when you limit all technology, can be really helpful for reducing stress and worry.

    • Talk it out. If you're ever worried about your mental health or start to feel like you're becoming stressed or anxious, talking to someone you trust, such as a friend or family member, is a great way to calm yourself down and look after yourself.

    • Calm Project: Work together to collect some small objects from around your house such as coasters, lids, coins, cups and jigsaw pieces. Have fun finding unusual shapes too! One by one, draw around each object with pencil on paper or card. Make sure that the outlines of different objects overlap so that there are more sections of different shapes and sizes. Colour each section with paint, and/ or coloured pens, crayons or pencils. Look at your creation and see how many objects you can spot! Show it to someone else and see if they can guess which objects you drew around!

    • Family Portrait: Draw a picture of you using only your feet!  When each person in your home has done it, put it together to create a family portrait!

    • Go on a family walk. What natural objects can you find? What sounds can you hear? What can you smell? How do you feel?

    • Choose a Cosmic Kids Yoga session or a Koo Koo Kangaroo on YouTube and do it with all the family.

    • Cloud watching: Lie down together on a blanket together and spot different pictures or stories in the sky.

    • Invite a friend, family member or neighbour over for Sunday lunch. Maybe someone who has been feeling a bit lonely.

    • Play a board game together.

    • Get active: Go swimming, jogging, climbing, walking, cycling.

    • Have a dance party with all of your family's favourite songs.

    • I love you because… - Write notes to each person in your family and put them in a jar. Take it in turns to share them and guess you wrote it and who it is for.
