Spanish
At Catshill Middle School, we believe that learning a new language is an exciting adventure that opens up a whole new world of communication and understanding.
Our Spanish curriculum inspires pupils to communicate with confidence, curiosity, and cultural awareness. Through engaging lessons and authentic contexts, children develop the language skills and cultural understanding needed to connect with others in our increasingly globalised world.
Each theme we cover opens a window into Spanish-speaking cultures — from the vibrant festivals of Latin America to everyday life in Spain. Pupils learn to listen attentively, speak clearly, read with understanding, and write creatively, using the language for real purposes and meaningful communication. They build the skills to think like linguists: recognising patterns, applying grammar rules, and developing strategies to express themselves accurately and fluently.
Our curriculum celebrates diversity and fosters intercultural understanding, encouraging pupils to appreciate different ways of life, traditions, and perspectives. Through songs, games and interactive lessons, pupils discover that learning Spanish is not just about vocabulary and verbs, but about people, identity, and connection.
By the end of year 8, pupils not only approach High School prepared for their next steps in their language learning journey, but more importantly see Spanish as a bridge to the wider world — equipping them with the confidence to communicate across cultures and the curiosity to keep exploring new languages and experiences throughout their lives.
