Science

At Catshill Middle School we are scientists!

Our science curriculum is designed to engage, inspire, and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to explore, experiment, and make sense of the world around them.

Each lesson is a hands-on journey—a space to ask questions, investigate ideas, record observations, test predictions, and reflect on learning. With no single 'right' way to explore, every pupil can take pride in their discoveries and grow in confidence.

Our science curriculum empowers children through diverse, exciting, and inclusive projects. Topics such as the human body and life cycles, acids and alkalis, forces, energy, and space encourage pupils to connect learning to real-world contexts. Along the way, they investigate the work of notable scientists, from Newton and Galileo to modern researchers, understanding how science shapes our lives and our planet.

Designed to engage every learner, the curriculum nurtures a broad skill set through practical experiments, investigations, data analysis, and problem-solving. By continually revisiting and building on these skills, pupils not only develop as young scientists but also gain transferable skills that support learning across the curriculum and lay foundations for future success.

In line with one of our federation's core values – aspiration – we aim to develop possibilities for all! We want children to have no limits to what their ambitions are, aspiring to be:

  • Biomedical Scientists,
  • Environmental Scientists,
  • Engineers,
  • Astronauts,
  • Pharmacologists,
  • Data Analysts,
  • Marine Biologists….and so much more!
